Helldivers movie no longer stars Jason Momoa
For an unknown reason, Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions have started seeking a new lead as star Jason Momoa, has backed out. The reason behind the decision is unknown at this time, but it was scheduling conflicts or some sort of creative decision that drove Momoa to exit production.
The Helldivers movie had been confirmed earlier this year following the successful launch of Helldivers 2, which broke the original’s twin-stick shooter mold to better suit modern audiences with a decently solid live service team-based shooter. It’s a rarity for studios to actually find a decent balance between keeping fans happy and live service, after all.
The movie’s plot has been kept under wraps, but the flick is set to be produced and directed by Justin Lin, with Hutch Parker and Asad Qizilbash also taking producer roles. The film’s release date reportedly hasn’t changed, either.
Since Helldivers 2 was backed by PlayStation before they really understood the difference between their audience and PC players, there was the whole controversy surrounding PlayStation account requirements and such, but that’s since been rectified and at the time of announcement, the concept of the film was kind of cool. Hopefully, whoever takes Momoa’s place will be just as solid of a fit.
