New Baldur’s Gate remakes in the pipeline with OG co-lead designer involved
To say Baldur’s Gate 3 stole the hearts of gamers in 2023 would feel almost like an understatement with how insanely well this asymmetrical RPG sold. But, of course, that’s the third game in a series, but it seems Wizards of the Coast have their eyes set on remaking Baldur’s Gate 2 with Kevin Martens involved.
PC Gamer learned of this little tidbit. Martens, if you aren’t aware was the co-lead designer behind Baldur’s Gate 2, so it seems like a match made in heaven.
If that wasn’t enough, though, the OG Baldur’s Gate could also see the remake treatment, which considering the sequel was a direct continuation, makes the most sense here. The report isn’t clear who will be handling the remakes, but we suspect it might be an internal team at Wizards of the Coast.
There isn’t a timeline when the project could be revealed, but even if there was, it would probably be a fair while before any new info surfaces anyway.
Beyond BG2, Martens was involved in a slurry of other high-profile games including Jade Empire, Throne of Bhaal, Mass Effect, and more during his time at BioWare alongside working as Diablo 3‘s lead content designer. It also probably didn’t take WotC much time to get in touch, as he’s already involved in Archetype Entertainment’s Mass Effect-like, Exodus.
