007 First Light cost over $200 million to develop
After selling 1.5 million copies in just a single day, more info on how much it cost to develop 007 First Light has come forward. Obviously, there is one factor that is never attributed to game dev costs — marketing. Since IO Interactive both developed and published it, they no doubt spent a pretty penny on making sure it’s in peoples’ faces in the best way possible.
Danish Broadcasting Corporation (via GamingBolt) cites that it cost 1.3 billion kroner, which is around $202 million. There were some shoddy things, though, like how the game’s development cycle was seven years, but that could be chalked up to potentially when pre-production kicked off rather than full-production, as we don’t know when that started.
007 First Light is the first full-fledged James Bond game since 2012’s disaster, 007 Legends. The title has been long-awaited, with IOI seemingly the best fit for making an action adventure 007 game, after all, they’ve got Hitman under their belt.
